The Doughboy
We’re in the midst of quite a few projects here at Landailyn. The main project is an ongoing, very extensive, genealogy for a local family whose origins are in Galveston, New Orleans and Germany. The ultimate goal is a written family history. We’ve completed a 30 hour block and are currently at the beginning of a 50 hour block. We’re also working on a Native American Indian genealogy for a California/Oklahoma family, ultimately relocating their ancestors on the Dawes Rolls. I’m working on a new restoration for Operation Photo Rescue, a rather complicated project that may take some time. Of course, I always take the uber hard ones, because I’m a glutton for punishment. I also see this effort, while mainly as a way to help, as a way to become better at what I do, so I might as well extend myself! : )
My latest restoration for a customer is a very cool photograph of a World War I Doughboy. I don’t know where the term came from, or what it means. Apparently there are a lot of theories, but, basically, no one really knows for sure. A silly name, and those leggings they wore didn’t do anyone any favors , but this is, like I said, a very cool photo! I got so caught up in this particular restoration that it only took a couple of hours to do! It’s not often things work out so well!
